TONY MARTIN
Head Varsity Coach
Coach Tony
Martin just completed his 23rd year coaching basketball and his sixth
season as Varsity Head Coach at The John Carroll School. During his years
at JC, Coach Martin has built a regionally and nationally recognized
basketball program. Previously, as head coach at Archbishop Spalding, he
took the Cavaliers program from obscurity to national prominence in just
three years. He also coached four years each at Baltimore Catholic League
powerhouses Mt. St. Joseph and Cardinal Gibbons. His winning percentage in
17 years as a head coach in high school, at all levels, is over 70%,
including 9 league and 14 tournament championships. His teams have been
nationally ranked by USA Today, ESPN Rise, and Prep Nation AP Polls. Coach
Martin has been involved in numerous camps, summer leagues, and All-Star
games, including the nationally renowned LeBron James Skills Academy, Nike
All-America Camp and the McDonald’s Roundball Classic. He has had the honor
of being named All-Metro Coach of the Year by the Baltimore Sun and Varsity
Sports Network on multiple occasions. Over 50 of Coach Martin’s former
players have gone on to continue their education and basketball careers in
college.

RICK LANDERS
Assistant Varsity Coach
Coach Rick Landers is an assistant with the
Varsity at John Carroll. A noted and well-respected teacher of the game,
Coach Landers brings a wealth of basketball knowledge to all facets of the
program at John Carroll. He has over 20 years combined experience including
coaching over a decade in the ultra-competitive Baltimore Catholic League.
During that time, he was the head coach at both the JV and FS levels,
winning several championships, including the 2006-07 MIAA “B” JV
Championship for John Carroll. Coach Landers has been associated with over
20 players who went on to earn college basketball scholarships. He earned
his Bachelor's Degree in History from the University of Maryland -
Baltimore County . He and his wife, Kathleen, live in Parkville.
MICHAEL JONES
Assistant Varsity Coach
Coach Michael Jones is an assistant with
the Varsity at John Carroll. He coached Harford Community College (HCC)
from 1992-2001 where he re-energized the program to lead the school to its
most wins in 20 years his first season and following that up with even more
wins the following year. Along the way helping 14 student-athletes earn
scholarships during his tenure at HCC. Then he became the associate head
coach at Aberdeen High School from 2001-2007, where he helped the Eagles to
6 consecutive Harford County Titles, 4 UCBAC championships and a runner-up
state finalist in 2005 developing players such as 7’ center Robbie Jackson
into a college recruit. Coach Jones has also worked several basketball
camps including Five Star Camp, Kutztown University Camp and the Dudley Bradley
Camp. He has coached numerous players at the AAU level from 9u – 17U
winning a national championship at the Div II 17U level with MD Elite AAU
program in 2005, assisting 15U Team Melo to an 8th place national finish at
the Div I level in 2008. He played college basketball at the University of
Hartford from 1981-1985. Coach Jones has a Bachelors of Arts Degree in
Communication from the University of Hartford. He and his wife Sanciarhea
have 4 children, Jarred, Brionna, Stephanie and Jordon.
WILL ADELSBERGER
Assistant
Varsity Coach and Assistant JV Coach
Coach Will Adelsberger is an assistant
with the Varsity at John Carroll. He will assist in many areas of the
program, including the strength training program and player development.
Coach Adelsberger played college basketball at Division III Washington
College and played high school ball at Mount St. Joseph. Coach Adelsberger
has a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and currently works as an independent
financial advisor for AXA. He is single and resides in Canton.
